How it works

Frequently asked questions

What is Yarn's photographic style?

I'm more likely to tell you to ignore my camera than look at it! I love capturing real family moments and although I'd be delighted to capture some formal set ups, I'll usually retreat a little bit and let you go about your family business. I provide a package of images because I want you to have a story to look back on of close-ups, candid shots and details from a particular moment in your lives.

Where do you shoot?

I like to shoot families wherever they feel most comfortable. All I need is a source of good, natural light. So, I'm happy to photograph you at home or in a local park or on an expedition. I've spent plenty of time pushing my son's buggy around local parks in South East London so I've got a few cracking park locations up my sleeve but please do suggest locations when you get in touch.

Will you travel for a session?

I'm based in New Cross Gate and I shoot all over South East London including Peckham, Greenwich, Blackheath, Nunhead, East Dulwich, Dulwich, Herne Hill, Forest Hill and Catford. I'm also happy to travel to visit clients outside my usual areas.  If you're interested in booking a Yarn session, please get in touch and I can provide you with a quote.

How can I secure a particular time and date?

I usually take a £50 deposit (non-refundable unless I cancel the booking for any reason) to secure the date/booking and I will also ask you to complete my booking form and accept my standard terms and conditions.

Who will own the photographs?

My terms and conditions echo the family photography industry standard: I retain the copyright in all images taken on the day and can use the photographs to promote my work. Unless a client particularly wishes to be identified, I don't name clients when I use images in my portfolio or for other promotional purposes.

How quickly will I receive my images after the shoot?

I will require a little time after the shoot to edit and digitally process the work from our session but will always endeavour to provide you with an edited selection of photos within 3 weeks of the shoot date. You'll receive an email with a link which will allow you to download your images via a digital file transfer service.

Do you print photographs for clients?

I can arrange for images to be professionally printed by a brilliant fine art service but there is an extra charge for any printing. I don't add a massive mark-up or insist upon minimum orders in order to access this printing service. I can provide a price list for printed products.

Do you use social media to promote Yarn?

I do! I particularly like the visual qualities of Instagram and I regularly update my Facebook page too. If you follow me on Instagram and like my Facebook, you might just get a sneak preview of my shoots!
